HM Revenue and Customs Launches Digital Charity Service

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) released a new online programme, Charities Digital Service (CDS), to help charities with the tax registration process. This programme will replace the existing practice of completing and posting a paper form, which was time-consuming and inefficient. This method required organisations to wait until HMRC could review the documents before they were informed whether they had been approved.

CDS helps streamline the process by providing guidance on what information and documentation are required to confirm an organisation’s tax information with the HMRC. As a final precaution, the CDS has a built-in system to verify that no information was incorrectly entered or accidently omitted. Upon completed registration, organisations will receive a number to use for all future HMRC documentation.
